NoSpuds is a grassroots movement helping people find interesting things to do. It's free & always will be.
NoSpuds was thought up by Phil Robinson, and has been built by Phil and a couple of talented friends. The logo and branding was done by Juuce.
Why does NoSpuds exist?
Picture this: you've moved to a totally new area, you're full of excitement about discovering your new neighbourhood and, in particular, you're looking for a life-drawing class to join. You have a hunt online, you trawl through the local newspaper and check out the usual community information boards but come up empty-handed. So, you give up, and sink back into video-and-pizza'dom. Then, six months later a flier lands in your mailbox advertising a great community arts centre just two blocks away from your house that runs... wait for it ... life drawing classes. Bummer.
NoSpuds aims to fill that gap - to help people looking for something to do to find that something to do.
What's in it for me?
So you have something to push? An activity or a business or a venue or a band or a community group...
NoSpuds helps you promote your 'thing' to new people, and it's free. All you need to do is take a little time to add the important details to NoSpuds, and manage them. Unlike other directories, we are focused on all types of activities in your local community, not just one type, like a yoga directory or gig guide. This means as well as getting people looking specifically for your kind of activity, you're also getting out to the big wide world of people that are looking for something to do but don't quite know what that is yet. For example, people who are interested in Indian cookery might also be interested in learning Bollywood dancing (but they just don't know it yet!).
What have you got to lose?
Next steps for NoSpuds?
We're always going to be looking for ways to make NoSpuds better, and to get more people using it to promote their activities and find things to do. If you have any ideas to improve NoSpuds , please let us know. We're also keen to link up with organisations who also want to get those Spuds out of their couch - organisations such as community groups, community action, arts, music, local government, religious... If you can see a potential meeting of the minds, give us a call.
How can you help?
- Add your activities
- Tell your friends
- Let people know you found their activity.
- Most importantly: get off the couch, turn off the computer, go and do something in your local community!

Phil Robinson
Phil is a self-confessed tree-hugging, vegetarian, Buddhist web-techie with a penchant for high-tech gadgets and jumping under waterfalls. He has also been involved with lots of community groups over the years, both as a participant and helping out with marketing of their events & activities. So he knows how hard, and expensive, it can be to promote an activity, having tried to get listed in local papers, done mailbox drops, created websites, designed promo-postcards and stuck up posters around the place & in local shops. Doing this, he often wished there was a central place where people could look to find out what's happening in their local community.
"I really want to help build local communities at a grassroots level and my core skill is building web businesses, so I just brought the two together to create help NoSpuds. So, get off ya butt & do stuff! =)"
