Superstars of early Hollywood

From the time that the names of movie actors were became public knowledge, the fascination for 'stars' began. During the 20s, this fascination grew to unprecedented proportions. Among the most popular stars of the period were Douglas Fairbanks, with his swashbuckling epics, Mary Pickford with her intimate family films, Lillian Gish, long-suffering heroine of many a melodrama, the legendary Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson, the ultimate femme fatale - and many others, including Pola Negri, John Gilbert, Colleen Moore and Clara Bow. We will look at examples of the work of all of these, as well as the legendary Rudolph Valentino and one of the biggest stars of all - the canine Rin Tin Tin. Three features will be screened in full plus a great many excerpts.
