The famous photographer Ansel Adams is quoted as saying "you don't take a photograph, you make it". The light, the shadows, the textures and colours, movement and stillness, and of course the mechanics of the camera itself - these are just some of the ingredients that go into the making of a good photograph. While Adams also said "there are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs", it certainly helps to know some of the fundamentals. For most people, a photography course need only teach them how to operate their SLR camera and they're away, but some people are keen to take their photography one step further, perhaps into the world of travel photography, wedding photography or portraiture. Whatever your goal, the best way to achieve it is to get out there and go snap happy.
